If you drive on the Iowa 175 bridge over Interstate 29 west of Onawa you need to be aware of a closure that may affect your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Sioux City construction office.
Beginning on Monday, March 16th, crews will be closing the Iowa 175 bridge over I-29 so repairs can be made because of multiple hits to the structure. Weather permitting, the bridge over I-29 will be closed until Monday, March 30th. The I-29 on and off ramps at the Onawa interchange will remain open.
When the Iowa 175 bridge is closed you may follow a marked detour route. Or here are other viable options if you are approaching Onawa on I-29.
If you are southbound on I-29, you may still use Exit 112 at Onawa. Or you can use Exit 120 at Whiting. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Then take the next road to your left. Travel south on County Highway K42 directly to the casino:
Or, if you are traveling northbound on I-29, you may elect to take the Onawa exit into town to access this faster route. Turn left at McDonald’s and take the gravel county road north about .75 miles.
